The zombies are so close…they can smell your brains.
An explosion at the army depot unleashes a deadly cloud carrying a genetically engineered virus that turns people into flesh-eating zombies. Eighteen-year-old Casey Williams is determined to lead her friends to safety only to find out she’s led them into even greater danger. Determined to save her friends, she fights the living and the undead in her quest to survive. Skyler Rankin’s Viral Dawn is available in ebook and paperback formats at Amazon.com. Ebooks are available through most major book retailers.
About Viral Dawn – As some of you may know, in my other life, I’ve worked extensively with reluctant readers. Young people with learning disabilities, visual disabilities, or those who have difficulty focusing often avoid reading, which is unfortunate. They miss out on the entertainment value and the independence in learning that comes from having solid reading skills. Viral Dawn is a novella. That is, it’s a short book. Its construction is based on research on reluctant readers and struggling readers, which tells us:
- They like brevity.
- They are most engaged by action-packed text with an easy flow.
- They’re smart kids with little tolerance for text that doesn’t move the story forward.
- Description is fine as long as it serves a purpose.
Viral Dawn is a story built around these principles. Reluctant readers from middle school on up will enjoy the pace and structure. They will appreciate that it’s a quick read.
What about others? Honestly, the criticisms I’ve received from typical readers has been that Viral Dawn is too short, and they wanted the sequel to be out faster. Both of these are valid points, and I take their feedback very seriously. There is a possibility I may release another version of the story for those voracious readers who want to get deeper into Casey’s brain, almost as much as the zombies do. I’ll keep you posted.
